Trade show exhibit designs often follow trends in commercial interiors such as offices, retail and hospitality spaces. While you rely on your exhibit house to bring you fresh design concepts, it may help you to understand how trends from other industries may be incorporated into your trade show display.
There is a philosophical movement underway in the architectural and interior design community. Biophilia is the love of living systems and recognizes our biological tendency to be drawn to nature. Connecting people and nature within our built environments facilitates interactions among occupants and builds social connections. That’s because natural elements reduce stress, improve clarity of thought, and enhance creativity among other benefits.
Biophilic design is a sustainable strategy. Biophilic features elements that mimic the natural world including wood, stone, plants and outdoor imagery. Research indicates that people respond positively when exposed to natural stimuli in the office, a hotel, a hospital or any space. You’ll see subtle applications in trade show display booths, too.
NeoCon held its 50th annual conference and exhibition for the commercial interior design community. Up and coming trends in the industry pointed to bringing attributes from home design to commercial and hospitality spaces. That is, creating an inviting atmosphere through warm and welcoming comfort.
According to Kevin Dana, Executive Director of Marketing & Product Development for Cort Event Furnishings, “designs for meeting and lounge spaces are heavy on greenery, wood pieces, and organic fabric colors…think grays, browns and greens.” Dana says gray is the new foundation color that creates a neutral canvas for any color.
Designers use bold color as a statement or an accent with calmer, neutral hues. The trend forecasters and color experts at Pantone have selected Living Coral as 2019′s color of the year.
Think about adding natural wood and stone finishes to surfaces like floors, counters, storage areas and conference rooms. Large scale graphic images of nature come alive when they’re back-lit or moving across video screens. Integrate plants in your space with a green wall, as perimeter or cascading trim or simply by placing arrangements in your reception or seating areas. Make your brand or accent color(s) “pop” against neutral shades in signage, counter tops, shelves, chairs and other details such as lighting, pillows or giveaways.
