How to best use your I&D team at your trade show

With booth regulations on the convention center floor the way they are, there is one team you are likely required to use: an installation and dismantle team. With this necessity in place, there are several ways to get the most out of your I&D team to make your booth experience smooth.

Helping you with union labor on the show floor: The great thing about your I&D team is that they work at that convention center laborconstantly, and will know a lot of the union laborers on the floor, including the supervisory staff. If you are having an issue with finding the right laborers, or you are just not sure how to navigate the process of requesting someone to come to your booth, like a rigger or forklift, they are able to help you get the right people to your booth at the right time.

Reviewing overall look of your booth: Your I&D supervisor wants to be sure your booth looks great, from making sure your graphics are straight to not seeing any seams in the carpet, to the best placement of your demonstration. Another set of eyes is a great thing to have, so be sure to have the I&D supervisor walk the entire booth with you once it is up and ready to go. You will be surprised how much they focus on detail and can catch something you may have missed.

Being your go-between for emergencies: Sometimes things happen on the show floor – the graphic gets dirtied or damaged while you are gone; the electrical goes out in a certain part of the booth; the cleaning crew you paid for doesn’t empty your trash. And while you would love to be able to run down everything, there are times when you cannot leave your booth because of staff needs and attendee traffic. For the first day of the show, when most of the issues take place, your I&D supervisor will be around, addressing any last minute issues. If you are in a bind and need to have someone run interference for you, your I&D supervisor, with his or her electric cart, can quickly drive over to the right area and get the right convention center personnel over to you.

End of show shipping: At the end of the show, when you are so tired you can barely think, you can pay an extra fee to your I&D team to help you with packing up and shipping your show. They can either handle all the packing for you, or simply do the final pallet count (and you will be surprised how hard it is to count properly when you have had little to no sleep). This may be the best money you have spent at the show, since you know your booth items are being packaged correctly and shipping paperwork filled out properly so your shipment actually gets to you.

If you have the I&D team at your booth, make sure you leverage their skills and expertise to have a great show.
