At Ion Exhibits, we’ve partnered with leading brands to bring this elevated vision to life. One standout example is our work with Topy America at MINExpo, where a smart double deck solution perfectly combined environmental responsibility, structural elegance, and experiential impact.
The Technical Requirements
Our double deck is designed to fit in 20×20 spaces or larger. While 20×20 is the minimum required footprint, it comes with trade-offs. In a space that compact, the entire 20×20 floor area is consumed by the build, limiting traffic flow, storage access, and breathing room.
That’s why we recommend larger footprints starting at 20×30 or greater to enhance visitor comfort, circulation, and functional zones. This extra space allows for clear sightlines, casual drop-in areas, and well-defined displays around the structure.
Every Venue enforces its own technical requirements, which are defined in a show’s Rules and Regulations. Typically, you’ll need stamped engineering drawings, load evaluations, and approval from the venue – sometimes even sprinkler systems for larger set ups may be required for larger setups. The key is to plan ahead and allow enough time for design, permitting, and overall coordination.
Spotlight: Topy Corporation at MINExpo 2024
The full Case Study HERE: Case Study: Topy Corporation | Ion Exhibits
At the Las Vegas Convention Center in September 2024, MINExpo drew roughly 44,000 industry professionals across more than 825,000 square feet of exhibits. Topy Corporation, a leader in ultra large wheels for mining equipment, seized the moment to showcase their large equipment rims in the space made available by our bematrix double deck.

Partnering with Ion Exhibits, Topy’s double deck booth balanced technical sophistication and brand storytelling beautifully. The design incorporated sustainable materials, aligning with Topy’s commitment to environmental responsibility and resonating strongly with today’s eco-conscious audiences.
In doing so, they didn’t just build a booth – they elevated their brand perception, offering attendees an immersive space that highlighted both engineering expertise and corporate values.

Why Double Deck Exhibits Are Game-Changers
Beyond grabbing attention, double deck exhibits deliver several strategic advantages:
- Private Meeting Zones: Host exclusive client or media briefings on the upper level- quiet, premium, and impactful.
- Unmatched Visibility: Rise above the competition, guide traffic flow, and turn your booth into a landmark.
- Maximized Footprint Efficiency: When show space is at a premium, vertical design doubles usable square footage without expanding the footprint.
The Topy build at MINExpo is a prime example – combining high-traffic engagement below with sustainable storytelling above, creating both functional versatility and visual impact.
Planning Your Double Deck? Here’s What to Think About
To ensure your double deck project performs as well behind the scenes as it looks on the show floor, keep these factors in mind:
- Budget Smart: Double decks require a larger investment – factoring in engineering, materials, transportation, and installation.
- Timeline Matters: Plan additional lead time to secure approvals, engineering, and logistics.
- Regulation Check: Some venues restrict height, weight, or double-deck use entirely – verify early.
- Operational Staffing: Ensure you have staff on both levels to maximize engagement.
Bigger Can Be Better – If It’s Smarter
Double deck exhibits deliver extraordinary value: maximum visibility, brand presence, and functional richness in a footprint-efficient design. But it’s not just about stacking two levels. The key is weaving together technical expertise, strategic layout, compliance, and storytelling.
Our experience with Topy at MINExpo showcases exactly what this looks like: sustainability integrated into the structure, brand identity amplified through design, and a booth that elevated performance in every sense of the word.
