Chicago Trade Shows 2026 and 2027: Your 12-Month Exhibit Calendar and Strategy Guide

TL;DR: Chicago’s trade show calendar for the next 12 months includes several significant buyer-concentrated events across healthcare, food and beverage, fabrication, and water infrastructure. From RSNA in November 2026 to FABTECH, the National Restaurant Association Show in May 2027, IFT FIRST in July, and WEFTEC in September 2027, you have access to specialized audiences in your industry. The strategy isn’t to attend everything—it’s to choose the shows where your exact buyers are concentrated and execute well. This guide covers the major Chicago shows over the next 12 months, who attends each, and what succeeds on each floor.

The Chicago Advantage

Chicago hosts more than 40 major trade shows annually across diverse industries. McCormick Place, one of North America’s largest convention centers, is home to many of these events. For exhibitors, the key advantage isn’t the number of shows—it’s having access to highly specialized buyer audiences in one location, and the logistical benefit of working with a local partner who understands the venue and union requirements.

If you’re considering Chicago shows over the next 12 months, the strategy is to identify which events match your target audience and execute well, not to spread yourself thin across every show. Most successful exhibitors plan 6 to 9 months in advance, secure booth space, and then design specifically for that audience.

Here’s what’s happening in Chicago from now through September 2027, organized by audience and timing.

PACK EXPO International 2026 (October 18–21)

McCormick Place, Chicago

PACK EXPO International is the biennial packaging and processing event, drawing 48,000+ attendees. If your company has a specific niche within packaging or processing (specific equipment type, automation, sustainability solutions), it can be worth a targeted presence. However, for most general exhibitors, PACK EXPO requires significant investment relative to lead volume for non-packaging specialists.

For exhibitors serious about this space, a focused booth targeting a specific buyer persona works better than a broad presence. The key is knowing exactly who you want to talk to and designing your booth to attract that specific audience.

What exhibitors should plan for now: If you’re considering PACK EXPO, be strategic about it. Define your specific buyer and vertical. Invest in a booth design that appeals to that exact person, not a generic “come see us” approach. The show is large; standing out takes clarity and focus.

RSNA 2026 (November 29–December 3)

McCormick Place, Chicago

RSNA is the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting and exhibition. With 10,000+ attendees and 600+ exhibitors, it’s a highly specialized healthcare conference focused on radiology, medical imaging, and diagnostic equipment. The audience is radiologists, imaging technologists, hospital purchasing directors, and medical device manufacturers.

This is a different audience than most food, beverage, or manufacturing trades. RSNA attendees are looking at cutting-edge imaging technology, IT solutions for radiology departments, and equipment upgrades. The buying cycle is longer, the conversations are highly technical, and the decision-making involves hospital administration and capital equipment budgets.

If your company manufactures diagnostic equipment, provides IT solutions for radiology, or sells to healthcare imaging departments, RSNA is where your buyers gather. For exhibitors in this space, it’s one of the most concentrated opportunities on the healthcare calendar.

What exhibitors should plan for now: The healthcare space moves deliberately; buyers expect professional, polished presentations. Design your booth around longer conversations and technical education rather than high-impact graphics. Attendees at RSNA are serious and focused.

National Restaurant Association Show 2027 (May 22–25)

McCormick Place, Chicago

The NRA Show is the largest restaurant and foodservice trade event in the world. Expect 55,000+ attendees: chefs, restaurant operators, franchisees, purchasing directors, and equipment and food suppliers. The show floor is organized by category (equipment, technology, specialty foods, beverages, smallwares), making it easy for buyers to navigate and find what they need.

This event is discovery-driven and relationship-focused. Buyers come expecting to find new solutions, meet suppliers face-to-face, and make purchasing decisions. The energy is high, foot traffic is constant, and the conversations tend to be immediate and practical.

For food and beverage suppliers, this is the single most important show to have a presence at if you’re selling to the foodservice channel. For equipment manufacturers and technology providers serving restaurants, it’s equally critical.

What exhibitors should plan for now: It’s eight months away, but that’s actually the right time to begin planning. High-demand shows at McCormick Place book space fast once the prospectus opens. If you know you’re going to the NRA Show in May 2027, starting your booth strategy now means you’ll have time to think through what makes sense for your company, secure the right space, and execute without rushing.

The NRA Show rewards booths that are approachable and easy to navigate. Attendees are moving quickly through dense crowds. A booth that’s open, inviting, and immediately communicates what you do will draw more conversations than something formal or enclosed. Sampling or product demonstration works exceptionally well here if it’s relevant to your category.

If you’re managing multiple exhibits across the year, our exhibit management service can coordinate the logistics between shows, so you’re not handling storage, transportation, and scheduling for each event separately.

IFT FIRST 2027 (July 11–14)

McCormick Place, Chicago

IFT FIRST is the Institute of Food Technologists’ global food science and innovation event. With over 1,000 exhibitors and strong international attendance, it draws food scientists, research and development teams, engineers, process innovators, and ingredient suppliers. The conversations are technical, the focus is on innovation, and the attendees are decision-makers with deep expertise.

If you’re a food science company, an ingredient supplier, or a processing equipment manufacturer, this is where your peers and customers gather. Booth success depends on substance: clear technical information, the ability to explain your innovation in practical terms, and a genuine willingness to engage in detailed conversations.

What exhibitors should plan for now: July 2027 is 11 months away. If food science and innovation are part of your business strategy, this show deserves a place on your radar. Booth design should prioritize conversation space and technical collateral over high-impact graphics. Many successful exhibitors at IFT FIRST have their technical team on the floor to answer detailed questions and drive credibility.

WEFTEC 2027 (September 25–29)

McCormick Place, Chicago

WEFTEC is the Water Environment Federation’s annual Technical Exhibition and Conference. With 25,000+ attendees and 1,200+ exhibitors, it draws water and wastewater professionals, treatment plant operators, consulting engineers, and environmental technology providers. The audience is focused on water quality, treatment efficiency, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure solutions.

This is a specialized vertical, but it’s a concentrated buyer pool. Attendees are problem-solvers with capital budgets for infrastructure and equipment. Conversations are technical and solution-focused.

Note: WEFTEC 2026 is held in New Orleans (September 21–25). If your company exhibited there or is considering the 2027 Chicago show, this is the same audience returning to a more accessible venue for Midwest-based exhibitors.

What exhibitors should plan for now: September 2027 is 13 months away, but if your company serves the water and wastewater industry, this is worth marking on your calendar. Booth design should prioritize technical content and demonstration capability. Attendees expect substantive conversations, not generic marketing messages.

FABTECH 2027 (November 9–11)

McCormick Place, Chicago

FABTECH is the metal fabrication and welding industry’s largest event in North America. With 40,000+ attendees and 1,500+ exhibitors, it draws fabrication shops, metal workers, welding professionals, equipment manufacturers, and software providers serving the metal fabrication industry. The audience is looking at equipment upgrades, welding technology, automation, tooling, safety solutions, and efficiency improvements.

This is a buyer-concentrated event. Shop owners and operations managers come with specific equipment needs. Conversations tend to be direct and technical. The show floor is organized by equipment type (CNC, welding, cutting, automation), making it easy for attendees to find what they need.

For companies serving the fabrication industry, FABTECH is one of the most important events on the calendar. It’s a concentrated opportunity to reach decision-makers across the Midwest.

Note: FABTECH 2026 is being held in Las Vegas (November 10–12). FABTECH returns to Chicago in 2027, making it a strong Midwest option for fabrication professionals.

What exhibitors should plan for now: November 2027 is 15 months away, but if you serve the metal fabrication industry, mark it on your calendar. Being in Chicago, we have experience with FABTECH exhibits. The show rewards technical accuracy and clear demonstrations of how your solution solves real shop floor problems. Attendees are practical; they want to understand ROI and ease of implementation.

Secondary Chicago Shows

Chicago’s calendar includes several other significant shows worth considering if they align with your industry:

AHR Expo 2027 (January 25–27) — HVACR professionals and building systems. Large show (72,000+ attendees) but specialized.

The Inspired Home Show 2027 (March 10–12) — For home, kitchen, or retail design companies. Design-focused attendees, buyer concentration, and product discovery orientation. 55,000+ attendees.

HIMSS 2027 (April 5–8) — Healthcare IT and health information systems. 24,000+ attendees if you’re selling to healthcare organizations.

ProMat 2027 (April 19–21) — Biennial material handling and supply chain event. 50,000+ attendees focused on warehouse, logistics, and supply chain efficiency.

The Logistics Advantage of Working Locally

Shipping a booth to Chicago, managing storage between events, coordinating with union labor, and handling last-minute changes is simpler when you have a local partner who knows McCormick Place and the Chicago market. A local exhibit company can reduce shipping costs, manage storage, handle fabrication updates, and coordinate with venue labor without friction.

If you’re planning exhibits in Chicago, that local coordination advantage is worth considering when choosing a partner.

What Successful Exhibitors Do Differently

After working with exhibitors across dozens of Chicago shows, patterns emerge:

1. They choose shows based on where their actual buyers are. Not all big shows fit every company. Successful exhibitors are honest about audience fit and focus on events where their target buyers are concentrated, even if that means attending fewer shows overall.

2. They design booth experiences for the specific audience. A booth for RSNA (technical, healthcare-focused) is completely different from one for FABTECH (hands-on, equipment-driven) or the NRA Show (energetic, buyer-driven). Good exhibitors understand each audience and design around what that audience actually values.

3. They plan early. Starting your booth strategy 6 to 9 months before a show gives you time for good space placement, thoughtful design, and execution without panic. Waiting until 2 to 3 months before limits your options.

4. They invest in follow-up as much as the booth itself. The booth gets attention. Follow-up closes deals. Lead capture, timely emails, and clear next steps convert conversations into actual business.

5. They work with partners who understand their logistics. A local Chicago partner can handle storage, fabrication updates, coordination with venue labor, and quick turnarounds. That frees you to focus on strategy and sales instead of juggling logistics across time zones.
